Your library card allows you to access the Mango Languages service of the Green Mountain Library Consortium! Mango Languages teaches conversation skills for 36 different languages, including instruction in 14 English-as-a-Second-Language courses. To quote Mango’s official website, “Mango uses real-life situations and actual conversations to more effectively teach a new language. By listening to and repeating after material designed from native conversations, you'll not only learn the individual words and phrases, you'll know how they're used in practical situations and conversations. You'll learn more than grammar, vocabulary and conjugation, you'll learn how to communicate.” Each course takes 2 – 5 hours. Mango also offers specialized (for libraries) support staff to system users. The CCL Staff and Trustees encourage anyone with an interest in foreign languages to take advantage of this quality learning opportunity. We recognize the importance of language skills in today’s world and hope that free access to Mango Languages will go a long way toward helping with the community’s foreign language needs. These courses are ideal for home instruction but are not suitable for in-library use, where the learner would not be able to practice conversational skills audibly.
