Community Room

The room is free and open to the public. Priority will be given to library programs and meetings. Use is limited to non-profit groups. If the group is made up of minors, it must have a responsible adult of age 25 years or older in attendance. No person or group may charge an attendance fee for meetings or workshops held in the community room. Charges to cover costs of materials may be levied if the person or group has the express permission of library administration in advance.

Reservation requests should be sent to library@carpentercarse.org. Please include “Community Room” in the email subject line.

The room can be used at any time (not just library hours) up until 10 p.m. This will give the police time to sweep the building to make sure it is empty.

There is no fee except for a security deposit of $25.00, which will be refunded upon return of the key. Library administration reserves the right to deny further use to any group if we are not satisfied with the way the room is left.

A library use form must be filled out and filed with the library director no later than 2 weeks prior to the meeting time. The organization and a named Hinesburg resident assumes all liability for any damages which may occur.

Groups using the room are responsible for basic clean-up. Groups must remove all trash generated from use of the room. Cleaning supplies are kept for this purpose in a cupboard under the sink. A vacuum cleaner, broom, and dustpan are kept in the storage room. The storage room door is located opposite the sink.

Rules:

  • No smoking

  • Groups are expected to leave the room in the same condition in which they find it. If the room is left in an unsatisfactory condition, the library will keep the security deposit and may request that the organization help cover additional clean-up costs.

  • Before vacating the room, please close and lock windows and front door, and turn off the lights.

Disclaimer: The fact that an organization is granted permission to meet in the Carpenter-Carse Library in no way constitutes endorsement by the library or the town of Hinesburg of the policies or beliefs of that organization.

HomeCard Service

The Homecard Library System is a cooperative lending program of 29 libraries in northwestern Vermont and has served most Chittenden County library patrons since 1991. It allows you to borrow books from other area libraries with your home library’s card (with a Homecard stamp & updated expiration date on it).

To participate in the Homecard system:

  1. You must establish a good borrowing record with your home library and read and sign the Homecard contract (visit the library to inquire about this).

  2. When visiting other libraries, remember to bring your validated Homecard with you. You must present the card in order to take out books.

  3. Always return books to the same library that you check the books out from.

  4. Interlibrary loan books must be requested from your home library.

Homecard Libraries include: Bixby Memorial (Vergennes), Brownell (Essex Junction), Burnham (Colchester), Charlotte, Deborah Rawson Memorial (Jericho), Dorothy Alling Memorial (Williston), Essex Free, Fairfax Community, Georgia Public, Grand Isle Free, Huntington, Ilsley (Middlebury), Jericho, Lawrence Memorial (Bristol), Lincoln, Milton, New Haven, North Hero, Pierson (Shelburne), Richmond, Russell Memorial (Monkton), S.
